As for the machine I did receive, I'm reasonably impressed so far. It dumps from a great height on the recording and playback quality of the Samsung DVDR149 that I bought for ?85 just three months ago. Take it from me, that machine is poor and doesn't have the hard drive, either. That will be consigned to the bedroom, although I just wish I'd never bought it. The AS machine isn't perfect - it seems to take an age to load a DVD and it doesn't have a memory for the position on your DVD, either, but it does what I need it to at a price point that is very good for this type of machine.The tv isn't setup to an outside aerial so I can't get freeview but happy enough with just Sky. Exactly the same set up as me, it depends if you have an HDTV or not if not the ?60 model should do unless you are going to be useing the hard drive a lot to store shows. What i like most about it is getting divX films of a dvdr and copying them to the Liteon hard drive. I even walked between shops and was rewarded for my effort I told them that the remote with the 160gb switched my Virgin box off when I changed the channel (which is sort of true as it did it once when I was playing around with it - dont know if it was just coincidence). The new one is a big improvement even though it has half the disc size, except that after being put on stanby it has a habit of switching itself back on again after 20 minutes. When I did the swap they brought out the Acoustics but I asked them to check and they also had Wharfdales so it's worth asking and not taking what you are offered first! Having been unable to locate the Freeview model at any nearby store, I've managed to reserve the Sony RDR-HX525 substitute at another branch, so I'm going to pick that up instead; it doesn't have Freeview but does offer some nice features like SAT control (via RF) and component video out, so I'll be very happy with it! It seems like I missed some real bargains. Does anyone know if the 80gb Wharfdale allows you to play a DVD at the same time as recording to the HDD.
