Dr. H ill also co - led two previous intercomparis ons which helped to inspire this work. Consequently, tephrochronology is a powerful tool for correlation and geochronology with diverse applicatio ns in, for example, archaeology, paleoclimatolog y, paleolimnology, geomorphology, neotectonics, an d volcanology. In addition, t ephrochronology potentially offers chronostratigraphic precision that is unsurpassed by other geochronological techniques ( Sarna -Wojcicki and Davis, 1991; Shane, 20 00; Turney and Lowe, 2001; Lo we, 2011). Realizing th is great promise, however, re quires that individual tephra beds can be distinguished and identified with confidence. Similar m ethods are also widely used to characterize melt inclusion s for petrologic studies (e.g. Rutherford et al., 1985; Thordarson and Se lf, 1996; Belkin et al., 1998; Frezzotti, 2001) and to characterize obsidians for archa eological stud ies (Merrick and Brown, 1984; Tykot, 2002). Microanalysis of individual glass shards for tephra fingerprinting has m ultiple advantages comp ared to analyses of bulk teph ra and mineral grains ( Sm ith and Westgate, 1969; Westgate and Gorton, 1981; F roggatt, 1992; Shane, 2000; Hunt and Hill, 2001 ). First, g rain - discrete methods a re necessary because (1) bulk samples may vary in comp osition with distance from the vent due to differen tial settling of phenocrysts and g lass shards, (2) xenocrysts and detrital contaminants may be incorporated into tephra deposits, and (3) bulk analyses fail to disting uish multiple populations and other va riations in the glass compositio ns. Second, glass compositions are potentially m ore distinctive than mineral compositions because (1 ) glass compositions ar e not limited by crystall ine structures or stochiometry and (2) gla sses, which represent th e melt fra ction of erupted magm as, are strongly influenced by fractional c rystallizatio n which can produce compositional differences b etween eruptions. As compositional differences between g lass shards from different eruptions can sometimes be subtle (e.g. Stokes and Lowe, 1988; Larsen and Eiriksson, 2007; Westgate et al. 2008; Kuehn et al. 2009), high levels of precisio n, accuracy, long - term int ra -laboratory reproducibility, and int er - laborator y reproducibility are required for reliable iden tification of discrete teph ras. Often, the use of pub lished data is also com plicated by small differences between resu lts produced by differen t laboratories. Ana lyses of common referen ce materials are necessary to quantify thes e differences and th ereby pro vide for more robust teph ra correlations. Among the many analytic al challenges which mu st be overcome to obtain data of sufficient quality and a major focus of this intercomparison, is the phenomenon of alkali element m igration (also known as “sod ium- loss” ) which affects Na - bearing silicate glasses and so me minerals. It appears as an approximately exponential and irreversible declin e in Na X-ray count rates with time during expos ure to the electron beam (e.g. Lineweaver, 1962; Froggatt, 1992; Nielsen and Sig urdsson, 1981; Hunt and Hill, 1993, 2001; Morgan and Other elements are affected relatively little. This phenomenon involves a physical m i gration of Na atoms out of the excitation volume (Lineweaver, 1962; Humphrey s et al., 2006), that portion of the sample that is penetrated by the electron beam during analysis. Much o f the “lost” Na is depos ited deeper in the sam ple, below the excitation v olume (Humphreys et al., 2006). Potassiu m may also migrate, but m uch more slowly. Si licon and Al atoms do not migrate, but their count rates are affec ted by the changing matrix composition. The rate of alkali element mig ration is strongly affected by both analytical conditions and sample composition (Nielsen and Sigurdsson, 1981; Hun t and Hill, 2001; Morgan and London, 2005). Rhyol itic and phonolitic glasses, especially those that are secondari ly hydrated (Shane, 2000), are much more strong ly affected than basaltic g lasses. Strategies for d ealing with alkali ele ment migratio n include lower beam currents and larger beam diameters (i.e. lower current densities), shorter analysis times, cryogenic tem peratures, and explicitly measuring and correcting for the ti me - varying X- ray intensities. The obje ctives of the i ntercomparison are to: (1) assess what the tephrochronology community is doing analytically, similar to surveys that the radiocarbon and geochemistry com munities do regular ly (e.g. Scott, 2003; Webb et al., 2009). Interlaboratory testing is one of the m ost effective ways for an individual laboratory to evaluate its performance against both its own expectations and the standards of perform ance set by other laboratories. Such testing provides a w idely - used external form of quality co ntrol that helps t o highlight re liable results as well as measu rements that may be subject to unsuspected b ias (Potts et al., 2002; Yip and Tong, 2009 ). (2) distribute widely a uniform set of reference samples that wi ll remain useful long after completion of the intercomparison. These sam ples may be routinely analyzed as secondary s tandards and the resul ts reported together with unknowns in future publications. As published reference dat a on common sam ples accumulates, it will be possible to bette r compare data sets produced by differen t laboratories, reduce un certainties, and mak e tephra correlations bas ed on such data more robu st. (3) motivate im provements in analytical protocols that will enhance dat a quality and improve the efficacy of tephra fingerprinting and correlation. Edziza, British Co lumbia, Canada, and (3) basaltic tephra from the 1783 A.D. eruption of Laki volcano in Iceland. An additional s ample, Old Crow tephra from Alaska, USA, was also distributed but not included in the intercomparison. These samples approx imate the range of compositions typically found in tephra g lasses and allow several elem ents to be compared acros s laboratories at both m ajor - and minor- element concentrations. Sam ples were also selected to r ev eal inadequacies deali ng with alkali element mig ration (Edziza) and in adequacies in dealin g with microcrysts (Lak i). It is highly homogeneous (tested using the procedur e of Marinenko and Leigh, 2004), has a v ery low microcry st content, and is separately b eing developed as a refe rence material (Kuehn et al., 2009). The ID3506 sample is compositionally indistinguishable at 1 standard dev iation (Kuehn et al., 2009) from that used in two pr evious intercomparisons by Hunt and Hill (1996) and Hun t et al. ( 1998). This allows direct comparison to those earlier results. Lipari obsidian s have also received dec ades of use as primary (calibration) or secondary standards in several laboratories (e.g. Smith and Westgate, 1969, Reed and Ware, 1975 ). Of the three gla sses used in the intercomparison, the Lipari obsidian is the best - ch aracterized. M ultip le X- ray fluorescence (XRF), induc tively- coupled plasma m ass spectrometry (ICP - MS), and wet chemical measurem ents are available.

For most renting with a skipper, the skipper service fees are included in the price. If they are not, the owner will specify this in the listing.

For a renting with or without a skipper, do not hesitate to ask questions to the yacht owner by sending a message through the Airynb site. He/she can give you more details on the charter.

The yachts should be insured by the owners themselves. When they create a rental offer on Airynb site they should have an insurance policy.
Please check with the boat owner if he/she has signed an insurance policy.

Theoretically, the boat owner or the skipper are the only captains on board. Although, with their authorization and if you are on a sailboat, they may authorize you to steer the yacht. If you are on a motorboat, and if you are a boat license holder, you may steer the yacht if the skipper allows you to.

Rental Request

You will be always able to contact the boat owner through the "send message" button in the rental offer of the boat owner. You click on it and then you access to the Airynb contact form. Please fill in the form and send message.

You may always ask the boat owner for a discount or a personalized offer sending a message from "send message" button that is in every rental offer and filling in the contact form.

You can see the yacht according to the boat owner rules. You will then be able to exchange contact information with the owner and visit the yacht. The Airynb contact form allows you to ask all your questions, and is also accessible via mobile site.

A rental offer "without skipper" is a charter where you get the yacht alone: you will be steering it. Do not forget to specify your nautical experience and add your yacht license, in some cases, to reassure the boat owner. You will be responsible of the yacht during the entire length of the charter.

A rental offer "with skipper" is a charter with a professional skipper or the boat owner on board. They will be with you during your charter and will be in charge of steering the yacht.

The pricing of rental offer have to be lower to the pricing displayed on your website or in your agency/office.

Your company or website may not be mentioned at any time: not in the description, not in your photos, and not in the exchange of messages with potential boat renters.

If you make your yacht available for charter with you or a qualified person on board, the charter will be considered to be "with skipper".

If you make your yacht available for charter without skipper, the boat renter will be responsible for steering the yacht.

You may also make your yacht available for charter "with or without skipper," letting the renter choose if he wants to have a skipper on board or not (depending on the renter's preference and navigational experience.

I remember you the simple steps to create a boat rental offer:

3. Insert a boat rental offer for every boat with calendar and price.

Boat renter communicate with you through "send message" button in the rental offer filling in the Airynb contact form. Remenber that you deal directly with the future boat renter.

You will pay a token for every day that your rental offer will be present in Airynb site. The value of the token depends from the number of your boat's feet.

When the boat renter will accept your boat rental offer you will delete the rental offer for that period on Airynb site. From that moment you will not pay more.

Airynb will notify you well in advance when the token payment will be active. From now until then you will pay nothing to enter your boat rental offers.

Charter Request

To offer a discount or make a personalized offer to a boat renter, you can do it directly dealing with the boat renter.

You will be able to share contact information, email and phone numbers with the boat renter.
The first time will be when the boat renter will send you a message via the Airynb contact form by replying to one of your boat rental offers.
When you will receive your message you will be in contact with the boat renter and from that moment you can exchange email and phone numbers.
